Steve Poteat

Hendersonville, NC - - Steven "Steve" Ronald Poteat, 81, of 3287 Heritage Circle, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at his residence.

Born in Ellenboro, NC, he was the husband of Burma Hoots Poteat and the son of the late David William Poteat and Eunice Atkinson Poteat. He was a United States Army Veteran and retired from American Federal and Arthur State Bank in Chesnee. He was a charter member of Chesnee Rotary Club, treasurer for Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce for 24 years, member of Chesnee Merchants Association, a member of American Legion and former Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader. He was also an avid billiard player, enjoyed playing cards and loved to read Lee Child books. Mr. Poteat was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, also surviving are two sons, Michael Steven Poteat (Tisha) of Indian Land and Mark Alan Poteat (Karen) of Madison, MS; six grandchildren, Avery Bland (Alyssa), Colt Thompson, Chrissy Thompson, Kendall Haley, Kennedy Haley and Emma Poteat; one great-grandchild, Kennedy John Haley, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Poteat was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Poteat; and a sister, Barbara Holland.

The family will receive friends from 12:30PM until 1:00PM on Friday, February 13 at Blakely Funeral Home. A memorial service with military honors will immediately follow at 1:00PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. Inurnment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
