Roy Gibson
Gaffney, SC - - Roy Gibson passed away on September 2, 2026, in Gaffney, South Carolina. He was born on February 5, 1944 in Louisville KY. Roy led a remarkable life defined by courage, dedication, love, and service to his country and family.
Roy served honorably in the United States Navy for 20 years, achieving the rank of E8 Senior Chief. Throughout his distinguished military career, he served with unwavering courage and commitment, including service during the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards and decorations, including two Navy Unit Commendations, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, four Vietnam Service Medals, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Combat Action Ribbon. These honors stand as a testament to his bravery, sacrifice, and exceptional contributions to our nation’s defense.
Roy remained a proud and passionate advocate for his fellow veterans throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of the VFW and served as Commander for five years. He was deeply respected by his fellow service members and will be remembered as a devoted patriot who answered his country’s call and served with honor.
Roy is survived by his wife, Diana Gibson; his four daughters, Theresea Wasson (Paul), Katy Crimm (Kenneth), Aimee Resh, and Pamela Gibson; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother, Ray Gibson of Spokane, Washington.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Gibson and Ida Mae Hayes and his mother- and father-in-law, David and Evelyn Park.
As a father, Roy was nothing short of a real-life Superman to his four daughters. He was always there when they needed him, no matter the time, the distance, or the circumstances. He was their protector, their biggest supporter, their safe place, and the one they could always count on. Roy loved his daughters with his whole heart and would have moved mountains to see them happy and safe. To his girls, he wasn’t just their dad—he was their Superman, and that was a role he carried with love, strength, and devotion every single day.
The courage and dedication that defined Roy’s military service were the same qualities he carried into his life at home. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest legacy is the family he loved so fiercely. He served his country with bravery, and he served his family with that same steadfast devotion.
Roy leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion. Though his time on earth has come to an end, the love he gave, the memories he created, and the impact he made will remain in the hearts of those who loved him forever. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
May he rest peacefully, with the honor and gratitude due to a man who gave so much of his life in service to others.
