Robert Lynn Lawhon
Anderson, SC - - Robert Lynn Lawhon of Anderson, South Carolina, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on November 6, 1937, in Laurel Hill, Florida, Lynn was the son of the late Herbert (Hub) B. Lawhon and Murle Lee Weekley Lawhon. From humble beginnings — including his first job picking blueberries for fifteen cents a quart — Lynn built a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, faith, and laughter.
As a young man, he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission, an experience that shaped his lifelong testimony. Throughout his life he enjoyed serving in various positions in the Church including Bishop, Seminary teacher, and Sunday School teacher. Lynn was a third-degree Master Mason and a member of Hyrum Lodge 68.
Lynn shared 67 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Shelby Sanders Lawhon, whom he affectionately referred to as “the mostest girl.” Their four children were the joy of his life, and he was the kind of father who was always there to show his support, whether it was for dance recitals, softball games, soccer games, Scouting activities, or cheerleading.
Lynn spent 30 years working for Colonial Pipeline Company, where he retired as chief operator. He then had a second career as Director of Physical Plant at Limestone College, where he worked for another 20 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Lawhon Howell and his brother William (Bill) S. Lawhon. He is survived by his cherished wife, Shelby Sanders Lawhon; his four children Gary (Melissa)Lawhon, Kelly (Cliff) Barfield, Heath (LeClaire) Lawhon, Melissa (Cain) Cantrell, and dear family friend Jeanne (Kelly) Thomas; grandchildren Will Lawhon, Mitch (Sara) Lawhon, Kaci Barfield, Andrew (Lyndsi) Barfield, Courtney (Chase) Bailey, Neal (Emily) Barfield, Stephanie (Corey) Carmley, Zac (Lorianne) Taylor, Jackson (Brooke) Cantrell, Ashley Thomas, Ryan (Erin) Thomas, Natalie Thomas, and great-grandchildren Eliza Lawhon, Lucy Lawhon, Crew Barfield, Banks Barfield, Tide Barfield, Grace Bailey, Wesley Bailey, Makenzie Bray, Levi Carmley, Whitner Cantrell, and soon to arrive Maizie Taylor.
