Rita Johnson

Gaffney, SC - -Rita Gail Mitchell Johnson, 75, of 145 Ruth Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Born in Chester, she was the wife of Don E. Johnson and the daughter of the late Robert Beaty Mitchell III and Betty Mae Baldwin Goins. Ms. Rita enjoyed cooking, baking during the holidays and gardening. She loved being with her family the most, especially her grandkids. Ms. Rita was the former Director of the daycare at West End Baptist Church, where she loved her career in childcare, was a homemaker and a member of West End Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, also surviving is a son, Ryan Johnson of Gaffney; two daughters, Candyce Wood (Brent) and April Bradley (Robert), both of Gaffney; six half-brothers, Bob Mitchell IV (Teresa) of CA, Larry Mitchell of TX, Terry Mitchell (Andrea) of CO, Dale Goins (Peggy) of CA, Ron Goins (Roberta) of CA and Timothy Goins (Larrine) of CA; a half-sister, Terrie Saunders (Dave) of NC; two grandchildren, Turner Wood and Ethan Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mimi is finally reunited with her granddaughter, Arden Reese Bradley, who preceded her in death and two half-siblings, Ted Johnson and Beth Fitzgerald.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Frederick Memorial Gardens with Reverend Josh Henderson officiating. The family will receive after the service at the cemetery.
