Becky Downey

Spartanburg, SC - - Rebecca "Becky" Cole Downey, 85, formerly of Wellford, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 12, 2024.

Born in Spartanburg, she was the wife of the late Jofey Bernard Downey and the daughter of the late Thomas J. Cole and Patra Holt Cole. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, loved shopping, enjoyed collecting things, was a great cook and loved having people around her table fellowshipping. She had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Downey was a retired secretary from Roebuck Baptist Church after 27 years of service and a member of First North, where she previously taught 5K and 2 years old class.

Surviving are two daughters, Vonda Pace (Tony) of Wellford and Mary Turner of Spartanburg; six grandchildren, Jordan Pace (Mary), Heather Steward (Ryan), Tiffany Dempsey (Lamont), Christina Bruce (Andy), Leslie Downey and Graci Turner; eight great-grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Corey, Eva, Kateline, Christopher, Brian, JJ, Heidi, Caroline and Maggie. Mrs. Downey was preceded in death by a son, Joel Downey.

The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until 12:00PM on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at First North. Memorial services will immediately follow at 12:00PM at the church with Dr. Michael S. Hamlet and Reverend Al Phillips officiating.
