Mary Jo Goforth

Cowpens, SC - - Mary Jo Spencer Goforth, 97, of 1743 S. Green River Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at her residence.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the widow of the late Paul Asbury Goforth and daughter of the late Earley Q. Spencer and Sara Gardner Spencer.  She retired from Oxford Industries after 40 years of service and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.  She loved her family, cooking, canning, flowers and was an excellent seamstress.

Surviving is a daughter, Kathy Gunter of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Sonja Akers (Chaplain Dean) and Christopher Coyle (and his father Kenton Coyle); two great-grandchildren, Kathryn Akers and Clara Akers; numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Spencer and a sister, Doris Jennings.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in Frederick Memorial Gardens with Lt. Colonel Chaplain Dean Akers officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
