Larry J. Turner, Sr.

Tryon, NC - - Larry Joe Turner, Sr., 84, of 2 Hunting Country Trail, Tryon, NC 28782 transitioned into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at his residence.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was the husband of Robbie Hobbs Turner and the son of the late Albert Dewey Turner and Sarah Bessie Turner.  He was a United States Army veteran.  He faithfully served as Sr. Pastor of Sonlight Baptist Church in Spartanburg for almost 2 decades.  He was a faithful member of Encounter Church.

In addition to his wife, also surviving are one son and two daughters, Larry Joe Turner Jr. (Denise), Sherry Turner Blackwood (Robby) and Paula Eaker of Gaffney, six grandchildren, Isaiah Blackwood, Chris Turner, Tim Turner (Haley), Hannah Lagos (Jonathan), Christian Brewer (Nolan), and Charity Blackwood (John), six great-grandchildren, Eden Turner, Kaylee Turner, Judah Turner, Caden Turner, Addie Turner, and Elliana Lagos.

He lived a life of faithfulness to his Lord and all of those he loved and served.  He dearly loved his wife, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved spending time with his beloved wife and making people laugh.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Encounter Church Gaffney.  A memorial service with military honors will immediately follow at Encounter Church with Reverend Joey Turner and Reverend Sherry Blackwood officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Encounter Church, 1905 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC 29340 or Upper Room Ministries, 320 Ware Road, Chesnee, SC 29323.

The family will be at their respective homes.
