Obituary

John Gary Threadgill

Gaffney, SC - - John Gary Threadgill, age 90, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of courage, wisdom, and kindness.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, John dedicated his life to serving others, both in his military service and in his community.  A proud Korean and Vietnam war veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

After retiring from the Army, John continued his commitment to service by working for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.  Known for his giving nature, John always went out of his way to help those in need.  His sense of humor and kind spirit made him a cherished friend to many.  John's advice was sought after by all who knew him, as his insights were always wise and heartfelt.  One of his most memorable pieces of advice was, "When you get to the crossroads in life, the Lord will always show you the way.  Just listen."  He was always ready for a long phone call and a great steak dinner.

John is survived by his brother, Charles Threadgill (Mary), of Memphis, TN, and lots of loving nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by a very special friend, Helen Stapleton, of Boiling Springs, SC.  He is preceded in death by his parents, John Threadgill, Sr. and Ella Threadgill of Cowpens, SC, and his brothers, Winfred F. Threadgill, Zearah Threadgill, Joe Threadgill, Robert Threadgill, and his sisters Winona Threadgill, Karen Worcester, Iris Threadgill, and Tweet Threadgill.  He will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all who had the honor of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on April 4, 2025 in the National Cemetery in Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC.
