John Bates, Sr.

Gaffney, SC - - John Bates, Sr., 85, of 1105 Green River Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at his residence.

Born in Aiken, SC, he was the husband of the late Shirley Arrowood Bates and son of the late John Bates and Lucille Terry Stewart and stepson of the late Tommy Stewart.  He was the owner/operator of Dual Temp Installation, a U. S. Marine Corps veteran, a Mason & Shriner, and of the Baptist faith.  He loved his family and his dogs, fishing and deer hunting.

He is survived by two sons, John Bates, Jr. (Kathy) of Canada and Rodney Bates (Jo Anne) of Gaffney; a daughter, Kim Bates (Brian) of Baltimore, MD.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Dean Bates and two brothers, Lawton Bates and Bobby Joe Bates.

The family will receive friends from 3:00PM until 4:00PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Crestview Baptist Church.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00PM at the Church with Reverend Rick Taylor and Dr. Greg Little officiating.  Interment, with military honors, will be in the Crestview Baptist Church Cemetery.
