John Grimes

Gaffney, SC - - John Wayne Grimes, 64, of 1709 Pacolet Highway, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 29 at his residence.

Born in Anniston, AL, he was the husband of the late Penny Diane Dover and the son of Marilyn Abbott Grimes of Woodruff and the late James Gerhardt Grimes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, an avid NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt and was very mechanical. Mr. Grimes was a self-employed Diesel Mechanic and a member of Pacolet Road Baptist Church.

Surviving is a son, Dustin Dover (Dawn) of Gaffney; a daughter, Cassie Grimes of Gaffney; three brothers, Jimmy Grimes of Woodruff, Jerry Grimes (Kimberly) of Woodruff and Jeff Grimes (Rae) of Gaffney; a sister, Delena Parlier (Les) of Woodruff; six grandchildren, Elijah Grimes, Gabriel Grimes, Jaylan Dover, Nickolas Dover, John Dover and Haley Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl Caloca.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Thomas Bryant and Brother Mickey Mullinax officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
