Jan 31, 1966 — Jul 20, 2026
Jimmy Harris
Gaffney, SC - - Having finished his earthly journey, James “Jimmy” Lewis Harris III, 60, of Florence Street, entered heaven's eternal peace on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 31, 1966, in Munich, Germany, he was the son of the late James Lewis Harris Jr. and Elisabeth Radschiner Harris and the grandson of the late James and Melzie Harris, Sr. and Fred and Paula Radschiner. Jimmy dedicated his career to serving the place he called home. He worked for the Gaffney Board of Public Works and later retired from the City of Gaffney, where he took great pride in helping keep the community a beautiful place for others to enjoy. A 1984 graduate of Gaffney High School, Jimmy was a four-year varsity football player for the Gaffney Indians, proudly wearing No. 54. During his high school career, he competed in two state championship games at Williams-Brice Stadium. Long after his days of playing, Jimmy remained a loyal Gaffney High School football fan. An avid outdoorsman, Jimmy found joy in God's creation. He loved fishing, spending time on the river in his boat and enjoying the beauty of nature. He also had a special love for animals and was an avid bird watcher. Above all, Jimmy cherished his family and friends. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved, creating lasting memories through life's everyday moments. Jimmy was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church. He dearly loved his church family and found great joy in worshiping alongside them through the years. Jimmy will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart and friendly nature. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he was someone others could count on. His generosity, compassion and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his two children, daughter Kamryn Harris and son Riley Harris; his sweetheart and the love of his life, Tammy Ward; and four sisters, Christine McAbee, Vicky Thomas (Boyd), Peggy Kies (Brooks) and Linda Wright, all of Gaffney. Also surviving are three nieces, Lisa Martinez (Gary), Kelly Lusk (Paul) and Laura Schriever (Jeffrey); four nephews, David McAbee (Janet), Josh Thomas (Jaime), Ryan Thomas and Andrew Kies; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and his loving family in Austria. The family will receive friends from 1:30PM until 3:00PM on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Southside Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00PM at the Church with Reverend Mark Robertson officiating. Interment will be in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 204 W. O'Neal St., Gaffney, SC 29340.
The family will be at their respective homes.
