Sue Walukewicz

Gaffney, SC - - Garnette Susan (Sue) Bruce Walukewicz, 95 of Gaffney, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024 at The Retreat of Gaffney.

Born in East Rockaway, NY, she was the wife of the late Walter Victor Walukewicz.  They traveled throughout the world together and she was very proud to have visited all 50 states with the love of her life.  They celebrated their 77th year wedding anniversary in July, 2023. Sue was an avid gardener who knew the Latin and common names for any plant you would ask about.  She was a Girl Scout leader for both her daughters' troops and served on the Board of Directors for the Piedmont Area Girl Scouts.  She volunteered for several organizations but her favorite was Meals on Wheels where she and one of her best friends, Jane Gaino, delivered meals to people throughout Cherokee County.  She had a quick wit shared with friends at the Wednesday Night Bridge Club (which often met on Tuesdays) and the Winers afternoon social group.  Among her family and close friends, she was most well known as a fabulous and generous cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; a son, Paul Duncan Walukewicz; and a sister, Roberta Duncan Bruce.  Surviving are two daughters, Christine Walukewicz of Columbia and Victoria Murphy (Daniel) of Grosse Ile, Michigan; four grandchildren, Stefanie McCloskey, Andrew Murphy (Nastasia), Ellen Murphy (Nicolas Urriago) and Jack Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Blake McCloskey, Ian McCloskey, Tom Murphy, Margot Murphy and Gabi Urriago; and a daughter-in-law, Nicole Walukewicz.

Sue's daughters wish to thank Tammy Sutton and Dale Sellers for all the love and attention they provided Sue along with the exceptional staff at the Retreat at Gaffney for taking care of her.

A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 1:00 PM on September 26, 2024 for both Walter and Sue.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342 or Girl Scouts of South Carolina at their website gssc-mm.org.
