Dorothy "Dot" Whisenant

Gaffney, SC – Dorothy "Dot" Ruppe Whisenant, 91, of 311 Champion Ferry Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of the late Philip Whisenant and daughter of the late Reverend H. H. Ruppe and Ophelia Martin Ruppe.  She was a graduate of Gaffney High School, retired from the Board of Public Works, and was an active member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and in a trio group.  She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and was an avid reader.

Surviving is a son, Larry Whisenant (Rae) of Pinehurst, NC; a daughter, Linda Whisenant Wallace (Andy) of Gaffney; a sister, Iris Ruppe Jackson (Gene) of Gaffney; four grandchildren, Joshua Wallace (Rebecca), Drew Wallace (Emily), Daniel Whisenant and Thomas Whisenant (Katlyn); five great-grandchildren, Olivia Wallace, Zack Wallace, Parker Wallace, Duke Whisenant and Koe Payne; numerous loving nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven Whisenant, five sisters, Eloise Humphries, Juanita Holder, Elaine Atkinson, Millie Reynolds and Elizabeth Bridges, and three brothers, Lewis Ruppe, George Ruppe and Solon Ruppe.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her special friends and caregivers, Vivian Turner, Tracy Ruppe, Mary Perry, Lani Carpenter, Tatie Morgan, Jonathan Parker and the Centerwell Home Health team.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Blakely Funeral Home.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Frazier officiating. Interment will be private for the family in the Cherokee Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
