Dorothy "Dot" Vess

Spartanburg, SC - - Dorothy "Dot" Lyda Vess, 93, formerly of 2798 Cowpens-Pacolet Highway, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Billy Donald Vess and daughter of the late George Nathan Lyda and Susan Poole Lyda.  She retired from Arrow Automotive and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church.  She loved her family, yard work and cooking.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Doug Vess (Kathryn) of Pacolet; a daughter, Sophia Vess Leonard (Tim) of Spartanburg; a brother, Harold Lyda of Clifton; a sister, Mary Ruth Cline (Ray) of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Teresa Hibler (Andy), Ritchie Ross (Melissa), Matt Ross, Daniel Vess (Teresa) and Tracie Fode (Aaron); eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until 11:00AM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at White Plains Baptist Church.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00AM at the Church with Reverend Eddie Smith, Reverend Fred Quidley, Reverend Michael Boyter and Mr. Rick Mabry officiating.  Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
