Doris Hogan

Pacolet, SC - - Doris Loretta Jones Hogan, born December 17, 1931 in Pacolet, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

She lived a long and faithful life marked by generosity, creativity, and quiet devotion.  She was the daughter of Hugh Jones and Ollie Manis Jones and spent her life rooted in the Pacolet community she loved.

Doris was a woman of steady work and simple joys.  She began her working life in the cotton mill before earning her beauty license and becoming a self-employed hairdresser, a vocation through which she served friends and neighbors for many years.  Her hands were always busy – working, creating, caring.

For 51 years, Doris was also a devoted doll maker.  What began as a craft became a ministry of the heart.  She lovingly made and donated dolls to children in need, sharing her creations across the United States and reaching as far as Uganda and Romania.  Through this quiet labor, countless children received comfort and joy from something made by her hands.

Every morning, Doris opened her kitchen blinds and prayed aloud, "God, this is your day.  I am your child, show me Your way.  Make me a blessing to someone today."  She often summed up her life simply and sincerely, saying "Life is good, and God gave me all the desires of my heart."  Those words reflect the quiet gratitude and contentment with which she lived.

Doris was a lifelong member of Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, where her faith was lived out with consistency and grace.  She was especially known for her 46 years of Sunday School perfect attendance, a testament to her commitment, discipline, and love for her church family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Ralph Hogan; her parents, Hugh & Ollie Manis Jones; 7 sisters, Ruby Gordon, Hazel Hines, Nellie Holmes, Rozelle Whitt, Christine Poole, Elizabeth Spurlin, and Annette Thompson; and a brother, Dean Jones.

She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Slusarczyk (Erik); her grandchildren, Caroline Slusarczyk and Julian Slusarczyk; her sister, Slyvia Motts; a special niece, Karen Longshore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM at the Church with Dr. Frank Taylor and Reverend John Cox officiating. Interment will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens.
