Cathy Cash

Blacksburg, SC - - Cynthia Catherine "Cathy" Cash, a mother and grandmother, educator, and cherished friend, departed our lives on the date of Winter Solstice, December 21st, 2024, fittingly for her affinity for astronomical events. She was born May 24th, 1939, in Greenville, South Carolina but grew up in the Mt. Paran community of Blacksburg, South Carolina. Cathy graduated from Blacksburg High School and Limestone College. She received her master's degree at UNC Chapel Hill and her EdS degree at Appalachian State University. She inspired a love for and spread knowledge of the natural world while teaching at public schools in both Cherokee County and Spartanburg County and at Limestone College where she remained Professor Emeritus. Her long, beautiful life was filled with light. Throughout the years, her passion for plants, chemistry, and biology led her to many opportunities including the entrepreneurship of her own plant business, being a published author of books and newspaper columns, traveling all over the world, and even a few seasons of being the Limestone College women's volleyball coach. She was a generous, caring person who spent her time doing puzzles, reading, playing solitaire, gardening, and terribly spoiling several wonderful cats. She is survived by her two daughters, Cassie Biddix (Gary Martin) and Beth Clary (Chip Clary), her grandchildren, Zachary Clary and Hayden Clary, a beloved cat named Topaz, and a beautiful collection of plants.  All services will be private for the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.  The family will be at their respective homes.  An online guest register is available at www.blakelyfuneralhome.com
