Betty Owensby

Gaffney, SC - - Betty Jean Dutton Owensby, 84, formerly of 508 4th Street, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Blue Ridge in Brookview House.

Born in Anderson, she was the widow of the late Douglas Owensby, Jr. and daughter of the late Frank Dutton and Ida McAbee Dutton.  She was a homemaker and a member of Cherokee Gospel Tabernacle.  She loved her Lord and family, her church, music, dancing and writing poems.

She is survived by two daughters, Jean Bridgeman of Spartanburg and Angela Durham of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Tamara Blackstock (Michael), Marissa Mace (Johnny) and Benjamin Durham (Vanessa); seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harrison Dutton, Roger Dutton and Melvin Dutton, two sisters, Nellie Tollison and Mary Ann Dutton and a grandson, Jerry Dean Reynolds, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 1:30PM-2:00PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Cherokee Gospel Tabernacle.  Memorial services will immediately follow at 2:00PM at the Church with Reverend Richard Sellars officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cherokee Gospel Tabernacle, 621 4th Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.

The family will be at their respective homes.
