Alva McCall

Gaffney, SC - - Alva Herring McCall, 81, of 116 Humphries Circle, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born in Lavonia, GA, she was the wife of the late Frank McCall and the daughter of the late Robert Herring and Ella Mae Whitworth Herring. She loved her family, enjoyed watching sports, gameshows and was retired from Luther Vaughn Elementary, after 35 years. Mrs. McCall was a member of Providence Baptist Church, loved her Lord and reading His word.

Surviving is a son, Michael McCall of the home; a daughter, Wanda Atkins (Donnie) of Gaffney; a brother, Bill Herring (Julia) of Bowersville, GA; two grandchildren, Macey Dotson (Sterling) and Tanner Atkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. McCall was preceded in death by two sisters, Sara Walters and Barbara Gibson.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel Reverend Will Vergara officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
